Growing up in Waimate, shooting was in Natalie Rooney blood. Her father represents New Zealand in shooting and her two brothers represented New Zealand in the junior shooting. In 2016 she won a silver medal in the 2016 Olympic in the women’s trap shooting after narrowly missing out on going to the 2012 Olympics.

Here is some of her advice for up and coming athletes.

My advice to young up and coming athletes is to work on their mental game from the beginning. When you warm up to play your chosen sport also set aside 10/15mins to get your mental game on. This can include going through what you want to achieve in that game, your role, I do a lot of visualization. And the last bit of advice or quote is to "only focus on what you can control", you cannot control the result or outcome of the game to focus on the hear and now and the results will happen.

It was great hearing from one of South Canterbury Hometown hero. Best of luck for the rest of the year.
