Alexia Hibertidou is GirlBoss very own 19-year-old CEO. Alexia created GirlBoss in Year 12 at Albany High School with the goal to encourage and empower young women, particularly in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. They do this by educating young women about gender equity and assists in developing strategies to overcome potential challenges. So that woman's voice is at the table.
Since 2015 when Alexia established GirlBoss it has grown immensely now having over 8000 members. Alexia herself has also received a range of recognition for the important role she and her company is playing in getting more young women into STEM subjects. She has won the Westpac Women of Influence Young Leader award. Alexia is also a Young Enterprise alumni.
We were lucky enough to ask Alexia some question.
What advice would you give to your younger self? Realise that you are never too young to create change. You don't need to wait until you finish school or university or achieve that well-paid job before you can start making a difference. What small action can you take today with what you have been given? We overestimate what we can achieve in a short time but underestimate what we can achieve over a lifetime. Join in with what you are passionate about now and see where it takes you.
What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments you’ve ever made with your time? My richest rewards have come from applying for opportunities I thought I had no chance of gaining; entering competitions I thought I had no chance of winning and, almost every day, doing things that make me uncomfortable. The cumulative result of all these hearts in mouth situations - is GROWTH.
